Held Friday 4th November 2016 at the Island Queen, Islington
ATTENDING – Steve Bignell, Richard Burgess, Stuart Carter, Ian Daffern, Chris Dane, Mike Delanian, Mike Herlihy, Phil Hill, Ian Porton, Steve Rennie, Stewart Taylor, Andy Ward, Matt Webster, Chris Wright (14)
APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE – Rowan Allerton, Chris Boden, John McGirr, Craig Murray, Dave Rawlings, Simon Warren (6)
The Chairman Chris Wright opened the meeting by thanking everyone for their attendance. In an occasionally bewildering speech that spoke of corks bobbing on oceans and name-dropping Ben Elton and Rene Descartes, he nevertheless stated that despite poor recent results the club was in good health and still had a great team spirit, and that it was becoming a big part of his life, unique, invigorating and constantly refreshing.
The Captain Stewart Taylor reiterated the point that it was still an enjoyable season despite results, the team had often struggled as a unit and failed to press home advantages regardless of some great individual performances. Chris Wright had been the outstanding player of the season, but lack of a full eleven had been a problem at times although the partnership with Winchmore Hill had helped bring in guests. The best performances had been away to S.L.O.B.S. and home to Mayfield. The tours had been excellent and the team had outdrunk everyone! He thanked all the members for their efforts, notably Steve Bignell and Matt Webster in their administrative roles.
The Treasurer Steve Bignell advised the meeting that the club had made a loss of £478 during 2016 due to increased costs of pitches, etc., fewer paying members and affiliation to Winchmore Hill. In the circumstances it was agreed that annual subscriptions should be increased to £70 and net attendance to £10. As the club was not a profit making organisation there should be no foreseeable problems for 2017.
The Fixture Secretary Matt Webster advised that the club had completed 23 of the proposed 24 fixtures, only one being lost to the weather, and the club had always managed to put out a side. No 2017 dates had been finalised apart from Porto on May 13/14. The Essex/Herts weekend will continue and all the same opponents will be sought with the exception of Southgate Adelaide, and only one proposed fixture against Highgate instead of two. There was some discussion about reviving the Nelson Cup in some format but this was not universally popular with the meeting.
As liaison person with Winchmore Hill Matt advised that the partnership was improving (8 guest appearances in 2016) and pointed out that Tiger members were eligible to play for WH on Saturdays if they wanted a game and perhaps were not available on Sundays. The parent club are always looking for players as they now run five teams. He would also try to arrange a fixture with them (hopefully early in the season) to help players get to know each other better.
There were no changes to the Committee which remains as follows:
